Representative & Public Administrator
Hon. Anthony F. Williams is the elected Representative of District #2,
Pleebo Sodoken, Maryland County, Republic of Liberia. He was elected to
the House of Representatives during the historic 2023 General and
Presidential Elections, defeating the then-Speaker of the 54th Legislature,
who had served for more than eighteen years. His victory represented a
major political turning point in Liberia, reflecting the people’s demand
for accountable, reform-driven, and people-centered leadership.
As a member of Liberia’s 55th National Legislature, Hon. Williams currently
serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Banking, Finance, Currency,
Money Laundering, and Insurance. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Committee
on Peace and Reconciliation and holds active membership on several strategic
committees, including Maritime; Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries;
Health; National Security & Defense; Elections and Inauguration;
Sanitation, Hygiene, and Environment; and Banking, Currencies,
Insurance & Gaming.
A reform-minded and transformational leader, Hon. Williams is deeply
committed to reshaping Liberia’s governance landscape through transparency,
legislative reform, institutional accountability, and the dismantling of
entrenched patronage systems. He believes public service is a sacred
responsibility and remains dedicated to inclusive development,
democratic governance, and service to humanity.
Early Life and Background
Hon. Anthony F. Williams was born on November 29, 1982 unto the union of
Mr. Cooper H. Williams, respected elder and citizen of Old Sodoken Town,
and Ma. Gertrude Sieh, community women’s leader currently residing in
Karluway City. He was reared in Old Sodoken Town, Pleebo Sodoken District,
Maryland County, Liberia, in a humble farming community.
As a proud member of the Grebo ethnic group, one of Liberia’s fifteen
recognized tribes, Hon. Williams grew up witnessing firsthand the realities
of poverty, inequality, and systemic neglect in marginalized communities.
These formative experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to justice,
equality, and community empowerment. His passion for leadership emerged
early in life and continued throughout his academic and professional journey.
